About REFRESH

The REFRESH project is for people with multiple sclerosis (MS). It is for people who have fatigue that is stopping them from doing their job, enjoying their hobbies, or spending time with family or friends. Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of MS. Although it cannot be “cured”, there are many things that individuals can do to manage their fatigue.

The Managing Fatigue program is a six-week, occupational therapy intervention that is being used around the world. The online version in the REFRESH project enrolls 8-10 people in the program. Together with an occupational therapist they investigate and test different strategies and techniques to manage fatigue. Participants share their experience to help others find new ways to manage their fatigue.

The REFRESH project is a research study comparing three ways to deliver the Managing Fatigue program: by teleconference, by internet, and in person, to learn if all three formats give the same results. People living in Ohio, Illinois, and Minnesota are able to participate in the project. The team is also testing whether different people, for example living in rural areas or from different ethnic backgrounds, benefit from the different formats.
